My core speed drops down to 800MHz

I have the haswell 4670k processor, and an asus z87-pro motherboard. It comes stock at 3.4GHz, and i overclocked it to 4.2. When i check CPU-z i notice that it drops down to 800MHz when not doing anything. Shouldn't it not go below the stock 3.4? And is there something in the UEFI that i can turn off to stop it from doing this? Once i give the computer something to do it jumps back up to the 4.2, im just not sure if dropping that low is bad or not.

The cpu will drop to low state when idling. It is behaving as it should. Don't change anything - it's a power saving feature.

I believe that is due to the Intel "Speed Step Technology". You can disable it in the BIOS if it really bothers you, but I would just leave it there.

Both are correct. I have an i7 4770k OC'd to 4.6 Ghz and showing the same thing.
