i have never applied thermal paste in the 4.5 years ive owned this rig so ill be doing that tonight along with a cleaning, and installing my new power supply. will the thermal paste/cleaning stop my temps from running rampant and shutting my pc down when i game?

Solution

Check them and see if they speed up when the system temperature raises.
Also you can use a app like Speed Fan or HWiNFO to check temps and fan speeds
I would double check with your cooler to see if its working right and that its sits well onto the cpu and if your computer paste not been changed for 4-5 years then it might off dried up so changing it might help the temps if not then its the cooler!

Dust can block airflow and even damage components, so it could, if that's the cause of the problem.
Have you tested the fans to make sure they're running properly?

how do i test the fans?
