My CPU Fan smells like burning.

Yesterday I installed my new motherboard (Gigabyte 970), processor (AMD FX-8350) and a CPU Fan Cooler because the 8350 is known for getting hot, so I installed the Cryorig H7. However today I put my hand up against one of the air/ fan vents and it felt a little hotter, so I decided to smell it and it smelt burnt. I didn't really think much of it because I thought it was just working hard, but about one hour later white and black vertical lines appeared on one of my monitors, so I think it crashed, but I don't know what caused it??

I am leaning towards it being my PSU because it is only 350 watts, but I don't know how to find out how much voltage my PC uses?

Thank You for all replies.

Get a new PSU, make sure its a good one, cheap no names can fry every single piece of hardware in your system. XFX and BeQuiet are two PSU manufacturers which make decent ones AFAIK. Look for one which fits your budget and check if there is a review on this site: http://www.jonnyguru.com/

That being said, while I'd recommend not using the PC any more than you absolutely have to, the burning smell may just be some dust which got caught up in a heatsink. Heatsinks being hot is normal to a point, that just means the heatsink is doing its job. Usually a PSU providing too little power will just result in crashes without damaging the components, unless its a really, really bad faulty PSU. So, to recap, don't panic, get a new PSU, don't use...
not sure, but if you want you can go look up fx 8350 tdp, and all your other components, add it then add a little because of hdds and stuff and that should give you a rough idea of power usage, or go to pcpartpicker, and put you build in then it will give you an idea. hope i could help a little, if it is the psu :)

350w with a 125w cpu and a 250w gpu? thats not even taking into account your hdds and motherboard requirements.
yeah mate turn it off and dont turn it on till you get a new psu isntalled. you need a minimum 550w to give you wiggle room for expansion or even oc'n

also are you sure your motherboard is rated to run an 8350? as some are rated for the 95w versions of the cpu while others are rated for the 125w version of the cpu.
so the smell may not be coming off the fan but rather the socket itself... if so you will need a new motherboard with the correct rated socket. or this will happen...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zTzpYjQ2MM maybe not quite as spectacularly, but still make sure your on the rite rated socket for your cpu or it will fry the socket and kill your system.

@HEXiT my motherboard says it is compatible with AM3+ and FX processors, but I don't know how to find out if it is rated to run my CPU, can you try and help if you can to see if it is rated.

Also Thank You for previous reply
