Recently my CPU fan randomly stops working for a few days on end

I tried unplugging it and plugging it back on the chassis fan port then back to the cpu fan port and back again on the chassis fan port but it did nothing and then next morning it suddenly started working again

a few days after that it stopped working and suddenly this morning its working again

How do i fix this? Do i get a new fan or is my motherboard the one having issues?

Solution
Often times it is either a problem with the motherboard circuitry or dust. Basically there is could be a lot of dust that has gathered up inside the bearings or inside the electronic components of the fan and that sometimes short it. A telltale sign of dust problems is a lot of noise or just dust in general inside your computer. If this is the problem I would suggest buying some compressed air and spraying out the dust. If it something to do with the motherboard though, there is really nothing else to do than issue an RMA for it buy a new one. It could also have something to do with the individual header but based on the fact that the problem still occured on another header this is likely not the problem.

Suggested actions:
Plug it...

It's not due to the settings since the fan started working as soon as i turned it on and when it wasnt working, it didnt spin while my cpu was hot

Plug it into straight into the PSU to test for motherboard faults. Basically this will tell you whether or not it is the motherboard (unlikely in your situation but it's always good to make sure). Test the fan in a friend's computer (if possible) and clean out your case for dust. If it still does not work, I would suggest simply buying a new fan; and while you're at, you could also upgrade the fan if you have to buy a new one.
