Simply your entire system is obsolete.

I have a similar build currently (same processor overclocked to hell, same gpu and more ram)

I can play most older games at high settings but anything from the last 3-5 years it will lag a lot even at low settings.

The solution would be to build a new pc. (which is what I'm doing myself)

I just upgraded from a homebuilt rig that was similar and yes it is pretty lowly. You have a better GPU than I had but my processor was a bit better. That processor is a pretty large bottleneck, and as mentioned that is a pretty lowly GPU as well. It should have helped some but if you want to game it is time for an upgrade pretty soon.

That will do...
I would call the manufacturer to find out if you need a BIOS upgrade for it...note that you may not be able to as those OEM boards can be wrapped pretty tight...

I'd just go for an AMD 6 core and MoBo for cheap solution.

Even the quad core of the Core 2's are at best borderline obsolete. It will be better than what you have now but not much better. Given that your processor is old and the video card is entry level you really would be better of just doing a new build. Putting more money into that computer would just be a waste of money.

Reusing the Case, Optical drive, and possibly HD can help a lot. but a 233 gb hd is probably nothing I would carry over, the Case/Optical drives saves 50 or 60 bucks vs a bare minimum build.

It depends. If the case is standard ATX then yes it can be re-used. Dell has been very anal in the past though by creating a lot of proprietary stuff one being special cases that can only fit their motherboard. The mountings won't line up with a standard ATX motherboard if that is the case. As for the HDD and optical drive again it depends. Yes he can as long as both are SATA and not IDE.

If you reuse your HDD, optical drive, and windows, you could probably go with something like this. I would recommend getting a better HDD when you can, though.
