[SOLVED] My CPU is idling at over 40 C, what do I do?

Hello! I have a Ryzen 2600 with the stock cooler. Im running 2 case fans, 1 that pulls air in through the front, and one that blows it out the back. I'm not overclocking myself although I've seen that there is some weird built in AMD overclock that can make it run up to 3.8 instead of the 3.4 standard. Anyway the problem is that my idle temp is quite high, at about 40-45 C, I've read that the stock cooler should be sufficient, but I'm not sure if that true. Could there be something else that I can do to get the temp down? Thanks!

Solution
That doesn't sound too bad for a case with only 2 fans and using the stock AMD cooler.

Do you have the Windows Power Plan set to AMD Ryzen Balanced?, Do you have the lastest chipset drivers for your motherboard?
That temperature is perfectly normal with your CPU and cooler.
They often go up to 55c whilst idling as the usage in Windows causes them to spike so yours is relatively low and nothing to worry about.

What are your gaming/heavy use temperatures like?

Thanks for the replies! I just ran a stress test with prime 95, just for a bit over 5 minutes so not long enough obviously, and my temps were at 89 C at the end, but I believe it could've climbed higher had I let it run longer. I'm mostly playing overwatch and when running the graphics settings maxed out (which I don't normally) it maxed out at 59 C.

To answer RodroX I don't have the AMD Ryzen Balanced, it's just set to the normal balanced. I just updated my Chipset driver, but the temps were the same.

If you updated your chipset drivers, now you should have the AMD Ryzen Balanced Plan available if you wana test with it.

Yes the synthetic tests do push temperatures up to their maximum point if left to run.
Your CPU would auto shutdown at 100c to precent any damage.

Your gaming temperature is fine too so your cooler is working just fine.
