I have just flashed the BIOS on my Dell Inspiron N5050 to version A05, but when I play Minecraft or do something else that is resource hungry, my CPU temperature rises to about 80 degrees Celsius. My CPU has not spiked to this temperature before. Is there a way to change the fan speeds? Update to another BIOS version? I have dual booted Windows 7 Ultimate and Linux Mint 18.2, so is there an application that will work on both OSs that can change the fans speeds? Also, i don't like the idea downgrading back to the older A03 BIOS.

Thanks.

According to Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, the maxium temperature that the CPU can operating is 85 degress, 5 degrees hotter than were my PC has been going. It's getting awfully close to crashing.

I own several Intel processors and none crashes even when they reach the throttling point (100°C). As an example, an i5-4590 has a 73°C maximum operating temperature, but it throttles at 100°C. Intel does not recommend running a CPU at a temperature that exceeds the maximum operating temperature, but at 80°C you don't have an issue.
