I have an intel core i5 4570 that reaches a minimum of 41-50C when idle and a whopping 80-100C when playing games that arent even that demanding like csgo.
it takes a few minutes for it to start causing lag in the game when it is at 100C.
I have tried reseating the fan and reapplying thermal paste but no dice.
if you need other information please say so im not very familiar with these things though.
Thank you for your time.

41-50'C on idle, is too high unless your room temp is also something like that.
100'C on full load ...well...this is waay to high... will damage your processor in long run.

Is the fan seated correctly? Fan direction correct? Fan is running correctly?
Is the thermal paste applied correctly?
How is the air flow in your PC?
Is that i5 4570 or 4570k? if it is i5 4570k, do you OC it but still using stock fan? if yes, you are killing your proc, get an aftermarket cooler!

TY for the replies
nope i didnt overclock it
no its not the 4570k
the fan is seated correctly as it has always been like that ever since
pretty sure the thermal paste was applied correctly
the airflow seems fine
what might have caused this? is it the processor failing?
again thanks

If you have problems with the stock cooler, based on experience, usually at least one of the fan pins is no longer ok, hence, the cooler is not mounted properly.
Just get a cheap aftermarket cooler like CM Hyper 212 EVO or BeQuite Shadow Rock Slim or anything in this price class.
