Whenever I play games, my cpu gets very high in terms of heat, and causing WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR blue screens. I have the corsair h60 water colling unit, a fractal design r5, 4 case fans yet my cpu gets way too high temps. I do not overlock and never had, I have an intel i5 4790k, and I removed sut from my pc last week. I do not understand why my temperatures are getting so hot, and I'm worried this repetitive BSODS could damage my machine. My gpu is a gtx 970 msi, with two very high quality fans, and my cpu gets between 35-40 degress idle. But when I launch games, I am getting usuaally, ast least 70 degrees, I do not understand why this is happening. Do I need to get a new cpu cooling system? I have only had my corsair h60 little over a year but if I must, I was thinking about getting the Noctua NH-D15. But I don't want to have to buy a new cooler unless I really have to. I am not certain my cpu temperatures are causing these blue screens but they have only started happening since I got a new cpu (intel i5 4790k). Please help, and here is the link to that cpu cooler: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00L7UZMAK/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1QB5QM3YGGA5K&coliid=IRKBAVK01L4SG

many thanks, Tom.

What is the ambient temperature of the room? I have an i7-4790K, and in an ~18C room, it idles around 24C and goes up to ~60C under load (with a Noctua U12S). Temperatures shouldn't be a problem until ~100C with Haswell chips, and they should down-clock to protect themselves. I assume you can detect the pump running in your current cooler?

Ok let me start by saying the H60 is a very weak cooler.

Now that has been said lets look deeper. 1. Is your pump actually spinning? To check this you may need to unplug the fans to stop them so you can hear it spin. Also enter your bios and look in the monitoring section and look at teh pump RPM's if it has them.

2. When you replaced the CPU did you clean the thermal paste off the pump surface and reapply new paste? If not stop using the PC and clean and replace the paste.

3. When you replaced the CPU did you wipe the BIOS/clear the Cmos and reenter the settings? IF not please try this as the BSOD's could be a bad BIOS setting.

I have not yet detected whether my pump is spinning, but yes i used a thermal remover and cleaner on the surface and then reapplied paste. As for my bios, I out them back to default but how would you go about changing them as you said, just to make sure I have done it right. Do you think it would be worth buying that noctua heat sink?

EDIT: I have now reset my bios to default settings and I believe the pump fan is working- I have realised I had the fan by the radiator in the cpu fan header on my motherboard rather than the pump, I have replaced these now and I am getting idle temps between 25-30 degrees celius. I don't know whether this is because my ambient room temperature is colder. But I may have had that problem from a stupid mistake on my part? I'm not sure- but just incase do you have any further tips or solutions to help, and is it important that I get a new cpu fan?

I have no got any form of thermometer to detect my ambient room temperature, is there another way to find it out, any other equipment?

If your fan was plugged into the CPU header and the Pump plugged into itself then the Pump would not spin causing your issue with heat.

Ambient temp is best measured with a normal thermometer.

WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR blue screen: In my experience this is usually caused by an unstable system / improper BIOS settings. Please test the system by gaming and with Prime95 to tell if your CPU settings are stable. This too will help with telling if cooler is working better.

You can't check if your pump is spinning.
I think you mean to check if the pump is working or if his fans are actually spinning.

That error is sometimes caused by incorrect voltage being applied to the CPU. It usually means the voltage is too low.
WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE is also very vague and mysterious. We usually don't know what it is as it can be literally any part in your system that is not functioning correctly. So as that error goes, we can still help you, but it would take a lot of man hours to find which part is not really working.

On this you are only partial correct. You can make sure the pump is spinning by stopping all fans and listening for the noise the pump makes. If it is silent then the pump is not spinning or as you say "working". Fans are easy you visually see if they are functioning.
