My custom build starts up but can't connect to my screen

I just put together my desktop and everything is running perfectly (kind of). My USB ports, switches, fans, and optical drive all work. Whenever I try to connect the VGA cable or HDMI cable, my monitor can't make the connection. What did I do wrong? Is there any common things that I can check? Thank you

if you have integrated graphics and a graphics card make sure you connect to the graphics card
