Have you installed the graphics driver for the 1050 ti? Also might be a stupid question but you're plugging the cable for your monitor into the 1050 ti when you're using it right
It's a laptop... The gpu does not have display connectors excluding the included hdmi port (most of the time) in the laptop.... And he did mention not playing on the laptop's display.
He should search for benchmarks on a gtx 1050M ti for the games he is playing. His igpu reading may be reversed with the discrete gpu. Also a reisntalation of Nvidia drivers is recommended.
P.S. Don't expect too much from a mobile gtx 1050 ti. True 'gaming' laptops start from a gtx 1060 6gb gpu and up level.
I've manually reinstalled the drivers and the problem persists. Other people with my same graphics card are getting an fps of 100-200+. I know for sure that the igpu and gpu readings are not reversed because the name of the gpu being used is displayed along with the framerate when i hit F3 in minecraft. Additionally there's a Geforce Experience thing that pops up when i start the game only when i run it with the nvidia gpu. I know a 1050 ti isn't a super high end card but I expect more than 20 fps on minecraft.
[Edit] I ran a benchmark test from userbenchmark.com and my gpu got a rating of 22% (where a GTX 1080 should get a rating of 100%) but even then the best rating any user has gotten with the kind of igpu i have was 9%, so my dedicated gpu should still be doing much better than my igpu.

[Edit 2] After messing around a little more I found that my GPU was hovering around 30% utilization and would never go above 56.0 degrees celsius, what do I need to do to stop it from throttling?
