M y desktop icons are appearing but I cannot access them and also some of my programs in start menu after the restoration of my personal computer whose operating system is windows xp professional. please help me.

you may try to check the link between the icon towards the exe file.. select the desktop icon>properties and see if the target location corresponds to the icon.
