My desktop VGA and DVI ports don't work

I am trying to set up dual monitors, but only the HDMI port on my desktop works. There are 3 display ports, 2 DVI-I, and 1 VGA port. I only have a VGA cable, but I bought a DVI-I adapter for it, but STILL cannot get it to work. someone please help, this is very frustrating!

You can't use a VGA to DVI-I/HDMI adapter. Unless it's a passive adapter. Since VGA is analog.

And DVI-I/HDMI is digital

They're not compatible with each other. Result: You wont get a signal
