Discussion My Diablo 4 on MSI RTX 3080 Ti experience

So I tried Diablo 4 Beta (without knowing firsthand that it was causing the GPU brick fiasco like New World did).
The game ran fine, no stutters, no fan spinning on the GPU like crazy. My monitor didn't black out at all. No I won't say because "I wasn't using Gigabyte or EVGA GPUs" which were the brands that got bricked mostly.
Before all of this though, I configured my GPU last year to limit its power draw and undervolt it with MSI after burner. This is because awhile back I noticed my power draw was way too high (additional 200-250W when playing Mech Warrior 5: Mercenaries), then my APC UPS alerted me I was nearing my power limit.
Most modern GPUs from my understanding, fresh out of the box, run at 100% power. My hunch is that those that got theirs bricked (probably) didn't set power limits and undervolted their GPUs before playing the game. Since GPUs have been becoming more power hungry as their performance increases, I feel that its necessary to put limits to safeguard the component against something like this. If you reformat as well, you will also need to set your power limits and under voltage settings with MSI afterburner, as these are not saved onto your GPU. They're saved on your system. Don't even try to game on Linux with a high end gpu as there are no Nvidia drivers there that can control your power limits and under volt settings.

My settings:
I set the power limit to 45% on MSI Afterburner, and my under volt curve graph looks like this:

Just sharing and reporting what worked for me, it may or may not work for you so I still would advice on the side of caution if you wish to play this game as no one knows the exact cause of the issue.
I also did not set a FPS cap on the Nvidia Control panel (as others suggested as a possible solution).
I can't say for certain that this setting spared me from bricking the card, but for sure if not for these limits, my card would have drawn 100% power and that could have damaged it.
I'm not sure if there's a particular cutscene in the game that causes the brick, but I have cleared all Act 1 bosses with no issues whatsoever to my GPU. I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. I just failed to track my FPS though, but I feel it was at least 60 FPS.

I've been through the mentioned cutscenes and didn't experience any problems at all
Either I got lucky or my settings saved me. I wouldn't say its a Gigabyte only problem since some users with EVGA GPUs also got hit.
There was even one guy with a MSI RTX 4090 that also bricked his gpu (at the bottom of the comments)

Also AMD GPUs seem to be hit as well

Just like last time, probably finding cards that already had an internal problem and were on the way to failure already.

I also power limit my 3080Ti, but no where near as much. I think I set it around 280W or something like that, would have to check.

D2 Resurrected actually puts quite a load on it, but the effects do look good. Haven't decided if I want to try D4 yet, but might give it a whirl this weekend.
