I see some people with the same problem and people just keep saying hit the button on the drive but mine does not have a button anywhere on it to open it so i tried right clicking on the DVD drive from the my computer folder but it is not there nor does it show up if i search my entire computer so I'm not sure if it just wasn't loaded properly or if my computer didn't come with a DVD drive and i need to buy one or something else i just need help right now.

^ really?!?! :ouch: The section in which the thread has been placed doesn't offer any indication?

GoldenBaJ,
Would you be talking about your laptop or desktop system? Is it possible to provide a full systems specs? Not 100% sure now but it could be a dead ODD or the device isn't receiving power.

Walked into that one a little while ago, picked out a lovely laptop for a friend but failed to notice that it didn't have an ODD. [:mousemonkey:3]

Worse than taht, Wolf, I actually recommended a customer to buy a certain Toshiba and when I called round to set it all up and transfer the data, I found it had no DVD drive. I think the connection may be there but not the unit so it's possible that when you break out the cover, you could actually fit one. I was quite embarrassed.and a little out of pocket when I gave her an external from my stock. 😀

@OP, please tell us more about this optical drive. Is it built into a computer or a laptop, or is it an external drive? Do you know the brand and model? It seems very unusual to me that there would not be a button on its face to press to open it. Is there a pinhole? If you straighten a paperclip, you should be able to insert it into the pinhole to open the drive.
