So i recently purchased this monitor due to many good reviews. at first i had a vga in it and it ran very choppy but colors were nice. i soon upgraded to a HDMI and the blacks were completely washed out. When i pull up the menu to check the monitor settings the settings panel is completely black (the shade i want it to be) but the rest is still a dull gray. I bought the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824160240&utm_medium=Email&utm_source=IGNEFL111516&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL111516-_-EMC-111516-Latest-_-LCDLEDMonitors-_-24160240-S2A1B

all the reviews were good except for 2 or 3 so i figured i'd give it a try. The part that confuses me the most though is that it is clearly capable of making that shade of black but it doesnt. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Solution

Alright.

Open the Nvidia control panel and under Display, click on "Change resolution".

It should give a window like this. Under "Output Dynamic Range" set it to "Full".

UPDATE 2
I found the setting the allowed you to make the corner of the screen a certain brightness and just extended it over the entire screen is there any other way to achieve this effect because i feel like this is not the intended way of doing it.

I know that it won't be completely black but it is very clearly washed out. Like I said the demo setting made it much darker, but it split the picture down the middle and I couldn't find a way to make one side the entire screen without going back to the old settings.

As its not a amoled display, yea it produces the effect, but its only because of the brightness being around equal to ambient light. In the dark it will not be the same
