My DNS keeps changing to 127.0.0.1

I need serious help. I can't connect to the internet although it saying I have internet access because my DNS keeps changing from automatic to a 'preferred server' of 127.0.0.1. I need help because I keep putting it back to automatic and after a minute or 2, it goes back to the preferred one.

Tell us something about your system, your internet connection and if it worked before. What about a virus scan?

have you been playing with any VPN type stuff/ software? if not restore your system using system restore to a point before the issue.

The only time I've seen this is when there was malware, but I have seen anti-virus programs do some really strange things.

I have read about this problem with users of Verizon FIOS who use port forwarding. If this fits your situation, I would Google it. Since I do not have verizon, I can't provide more than a sugestion. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for commenting, I found the problem. I downloaded a program called 'Combo Fix' and it sorted out my problem. It deleted a program I had installed called 'Penwes' which was stopping me from using the internet. Thanks for everyone's help.
