My dvd is not playing in my loptop

Basic troubleshooting....

Try a standard music CD (not a copied one) , if that doesnt work, check the drive is showing in device manager, if it is... the drive has probably failed...how old is the laptop ?

Are they home-made dvd and cd(s)?
