My ethernet adapter disappeared from device manager!

It was working a few weeks ago, and when i came back from vacation Ethernet didn't work and the adapter doesn't show in device manager.

Odds are anonymous1 is correct, but you can try removing the network interface card (If you are using a USB/PCI style card) and plugging it back in. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Either way, best of luck. - Sub
