My ethernet cable is plugged in but it says not connected no connections are available

I ordered my computer last week and it has come this week. I booted it all up installing my windows 7 that I bought with it and everything runs fine except the internet. I read through some threads and looked in my device manager and it has and error on Ethernet Controller,
PCI Device and SM Bus Controller I attempted to update the drivers but it says no software available. Any advise will be very helpful.

Get the drivers off the mobo maker's site. Or the cd if you have the motherboard cd

If that doesn't work, buy another ethernet card eg http://www.newegg.com/Network-Interface-Cards/SubCategory/ID-27

Try an Asus N15 (or N53 if you have a dual band router)
