My Ethernet lights turn off and on

On my router, when you plug in a Ethernet cable, 2 lights come on. After a couple of seconds they both turn off and then on again. A couple of seconds after the lights turn off and the process repeats.

When the lights are on, in the computer it says identifying (and a yellow triangle). When the lights are off it says that my PC is disconnected (and red X).

How do I fix it so that the lights don't go out and my computer has time to connect.

Try a different cable or NIC.

That signals a physical connection problem.

Try another cable/port.

The cable MUST, and I mean MUST plug in with a solid click, without hesitation, not sponginess.
