I’m sitting right now with two monitors in front of me:

The ASUS ROG Swift – needs no intro!
Dell U2715H – 60Hz, 1440p
Running off a i7 4790k with a GTX 980, I was able to compare the two side-by-side running different games and the Heaven Benchmark.
I’ve only ran off an Envision 1440x900 60hz (assuming TN) monitor and this is my first time with IPS and with a High Refresh Monitor. I’ve been without a monitor for 3 weeks and I’m hearing the New monitors won’t be out until late March, I can’t go that long without a monitor. By the end the week however, one has to go.
Here are my impressions:

Dell IPS:
I picked the Dell because it got a good review from TFT central and it’s using the LG panel which I heard is one of the best. Lets just say I was WOWED!! I didn’t see any of that IPS Glow and it was black all around. Then I started seeing some Pics and Videos. There is a reason it’s called Ultrasharp. Everthing coming out of this monitor was GORGEOUS!! The colors were vibrant, uniform, full, sharp, and clear. After calibrating to the TFT settings, it was amazing.
Now I hear not all IPS panels are created equal. I was thinking about waiting for the ACER Gsync IPS but I don’t know how that will turn out.

Rog Swift:
This one doesn’t really need an intro but I wanted to go all out. Let me just say this… Youtube or even my Note 4 Camera, CANNOT CAPTURE THE EXPERIENCE with a High FPS and Gsync.
I’ve watched TONS of videos.
Unfortunately no one can be, TOLD what Gsync is like, you have to SEE it for yourself.

The monitor came with a few issues. There is a weird small “wing” like light in the top center of the screen. Then there’s a little bleeding coming from the bottom. It doesn’t bother me much when I’m using it, and I got used to it but being there for a monitor of this caliber was a bit upsetting.
The colors aren’t that bad either. Just like IPS panels are different, TN’s vary as well. It still has that TN style saturation and dullness, but the colors, after calibration, looked pretty close to the IPS. But again this isn’t something a Camera can capture easily. Side by side, you can DEFINITELY tell which one is the IPS. But again, the colors aren’t BAD. The way I think of it is like comparing a comic book vs a magazine.

Where this monitor shines, is in the performance. The ROG was like a calm flowing river stream. The Gsync REALLY works! No stuttering, tearing, hiccups, and the high refresh rate helped make EVERYTHING smooth. This isn’t just a monitor for FPS games. I ran CS:GO, Injustice, MK9, Resident Evil, LOTRO, and SoM. The performance on ALL of these games was MUCH better than on the Dell. The flow was nice and smooth. With 1 980, I was getting 30-70 fps. I have one more on the way for an SLI.

It’s like this, ROG = smooth flowing river but not much to look at; Dell IPS = Colorful Fireworks, Pretty but explosive and inconsistent.
Playing with both, individually, and side-by-side, I now get the Tearing and Stuttering people talk about with regular monitors.

However, the IPS is still very playable and the screen uniformity Helps a lot. A 27” TN panel, even one as good as the ROG still shows it’s TN side even looking dead on. The Dell was crisp from most angles.

Cost:
ROG($800) vs Dell ($550), a $250 difference. I would be fine keeping either, but is the extra performance worth the extra $250 at the cost of better visuals? Then there are the QC issues. I’m pretty sure the Dell will be fine for a WHILE, but from what I’ve heard regarding the ROG, it could conk on me months down the line. And ASUS Cust. Svc is awful.

Summary:
G-Sync works (or it could’ve been the High RF or Both), and it is amazing! Like many have said, this is something you MUST experience in person. The stores have shitty setups where I couldn’t see the full effect until I brought it home. However, the TN panel, though being among the best TN panels, still looks like TN! The Dell IPS is really amazing, especially since it’s a good quality IPS. It has a more vibrant sheen to the color, that saturation that everyone talks about, however it isn’t as smooth as the ROG. But I will say this with a high degree of confidence, NO AMOUNT OF CALIBRATION made the ROD look as good as the Dell and I’ve put in hours of testing. I can’t say this of ALL monitors but if the ROG is a representative of the best TN Panels and ,after looking at other IPS’s at the store, the Dell represents a GOOD IPS at the least then this is my conclusion.
The IPS is still playable so it really is a question of what’s more important, Eye candy or Performance (Not limited to JUST FPS)? If ACER and ASUS hurry with their new releases, we could actually have both! If however you’re looking for a monitor and short on time, this will be a bit of a pickle, unless with the ACER/ASUS you can wait and wait and wait….
The ideal monitor would have the best of both worlds…wait isn’t that the ACER XB270HU/ ASUS MG279Q…WHY yes it is, but there is a two month waiting period.
Right now I’m packing up Both monitors as I’m within my return period and I must decide if I should keep one or return both…
Thanks for reading and all comments are welcome.

If more than 50% of your screen time is gaming keep the SWIFT if you don't game that much and do other stuff for more than 50% of your screen time keep the IPS.

Note: I actually like the color of my AOC G-sync over the two different SWIFTs I've seen in person.
