My external hard disk is showing empty space after coping so much files

I have vent to my friends home to take some files from him and after copying so much files i went to my home and as soon as I had open the hard disk there was no files

Probably a damaged disk or the HDD is in the wrong format.

Did you check the disk for the files before you left?

Are you sure that the transfer process was not interrupted?
Apart from that, I guess you can scan your HDD with some data recovery software and see whether there is some data on it. You can check this out: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html
Also, it may be a good idea to test your drive with a brand specific testing software in order to check out its health status.

Is it possible you copied to the wrong logical drive? You may have thought you were copying to your disk when in reality you copied them to a different drive on your friend's computer. Is the disk empty or is it corrupt? Perhaps you got too close to a magnetic field that erased your disk. Try protecting it in a lead box next time.
