my external hard drive does not show up

my external verbatim 3.0 hard drive does not show up anywhere (file explorer,disk management or BIOS). when i connect the wire the light turns on but nothing happens.

sometimes in my devices and printers it would show an unknown device but troubleshooting it did nothing.

any ideas?

kuluislit , have you tried the drive on another computer? How about connecting another device to the port? Is it detected?
