Hello every one,

I just bought a new system with 1Terbyte hard disk. I created a new partition on the disk and gave it a letter E. unfortunately I forgot that my external hard drive was also connected to the system and was automatically given letter E. when I finished creating the partition and formatted it. The system no longer detects my external hard drive. I connected it to another windows system but that also did not detect it. I have all my backup in this external drive. Could anyone please help me out?

Windows will automatically assign a drive letter for a drive, so there is no chance of conflicting drive letters. The external drive not being detected is another story.

Make sure you didn't format the ex drive by mistake. If so then try data recovery programs to recover data. Do not write anything to the ex drive or you will have no chance of recovering data. And if you are able to recover data do not use the same drive(ex drive) to restore data, use a different drive.

There are tons out there to try for free.
