Dears,

As soon as I connect my external hard disk to my laptop, it will be detected and soon will be disconnected. When I connect, I will be able to see the "USB mass storage device" under Device manager but soon after few seconds it disappears as the connectivity is lost. I believe this is a connectivity (wire) problem. Can anyone confirm me on that? If so, then I will replace the connecting cable but if not, I would really appreciate if someone can help me out on this.

Thanks,
Nagabhushan

Hi there Bhushan_1

Well, this could be caused by several things, one of which, is faulty cable. So, you should try attaching the drive with a different one. You can also attach it to another USB port or even a different computer. That way, you will rule out a possible driver related problem.

In case the issue persist even after replacing the cable, then most probably there is something wrong with the enclosure.(or even the HDD itself)
Is the drive under warranty? Do you have some important data stored on the drive?

In case the USB cable does not work, then I guess you can:
- Just RMA the drive in case it is under warranty.
- Contact a data recovery company if the data stored on it is crucial.

- Some users take the drive out of the enclosure. Keep in mind that this will void the warranty. Also, it may not work in case the device has proprietary connectors and/or hardware encryption.

Let me know in case you have some more questions,
