I have a Toshiba External HDD which is not being recognized by any of my xp machines but works fine on my windows 8.1 and windows 10 machines. This started when my son "borrowed" the drive for something and plugged it into a windows 10 machine. Now it is no longer recognized y the windows xp machine I normally use it with, nor my other xp machine. It works fine on my Windows 8.1 machine and his Windows 10 machine. He said a message came up when he plugged it into his windows 10 machine and he clicked to correct the error. I think that may have started this problem. Anyone know how to correct this so I can use it on my xp machine again?

Sorry for the few days away, been too busy to focus on this issue. Just wanted to let you know what happened when I tried to use disk manager, as you suggested.

When I try to access disk manager, following the instructions on the link, the disk manager wouldn't open when I had the drive plugged into the machine. Nothing happened at all until the machine eventually froze. I restarted the machine without the drive plugged in and the disk manager opened fine. I plugged in the drive with the disk manager open and nothing happened. I then clicked on one of the other areas and then went bck to disk manager. This time it did indicate that the drive was there. It indicated that the drive was Healthy (Active), but when I opened Windows Explore, it could be seen but when I clicked on it I got a message J:\is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
