My first build, any ideas or suggestions?

Hello everyone,
This is my first post on this forum and also my first PC build. After doing some extensive research etc. I've come up with a products list that I was wondering if you all (being the experts) could look at and give me some ideas or suggestions and let me know of any compatibility issues you think I might have. This system is for intense photo editing as well as gaming (obviously). Trying to keep it around $1,000 US. Thanks again in advance.

-Cooler Master RC-310-BWN1-GP Elite 310 ATX, MATX Mid Tower Case with Window

-Cooler Master RR-B10-212P-G1 Hyper 212 Plus 775/1156/1366/AMD/AM2/AM3 Universal Direct Contact Heat-Pipe 120mm Fan CPU Cooler

-Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650-Watt TX Series 80 Plus Certified Power Supply

-Corsair TR3X6G1600C9 XMS3 6 GB 3 X 2 GB PC3-12800 1600MHz 240-Pin DDR3 Tri-Channel Intel Core i7 Memory Kit
(This is for $140 and I don't know if that price reflects well the quality or if you have any suggestions on different 6gb RAM)

-AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8 GHz 6x512 KB L2 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Processor
(I'm also think of the 1075T but cost is making me think otherwise, what do you think?)

-ASUS Crosshair IV Formula - AM3 - AMD 890FX - DDR3 - Republic of Gamers - ATX Motherboard

or

-Gigabyte Socket AM3/AMD 890FX/SATA3&USB3.0/A&2GbE/ATX Motherboard GA-890FXA-UD5
(I'm debating on these two MOBO. Any suggestions?)

-XFX Radeon HD 5770 1GB DDR5 PCIE Graphics Card HD577AZNFC
(I thought this one was good because of the reviews I've read and I can buy a second later for crossfire. What do you think?)

-Western Digital 750 GB Caviar Black SATA 7200 RPM 32 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive WD7501AALS
(I thought this was a good HDD for now because of the reviews etc. When I have more money I think I'll get an SSD. The other HDD I was thinking of getting was the same one but with 64mb of cache. Again what are your suggestions)

And that's about it other than an optical drive which I'll worry about later. Let me know what you think ideas or suggestions. Thanks so much and AWESOME forum!!

Nice suggestion on the GPU. I'll add it. I like the package you showed me but I don't like the case as much. The one I chose is cheaper even with the 650 watt PSU separately. Thanks for the suggestions. The other thing was the memory in that deall is only 1333 whereas the one I chose is 1600. What do you think about the MOBO in that set up and the one's I've got? And what do you think about the memory I chose? Thanks again.

I wouldn't see too much difference between 1600 and 1333 unless u plan to overclock any components. This is because the Phenom II X6 only supports up to 1333. Good choice on the ATI 5770 in terms of photo editing and gaming. u chose core i7 memory but ur mobo only supports dual channel.

Here's a crossfire-ready system:

THese are great suggestions. As far as the memory issue, would that memory not work because it is specific for a i7 MOBO? I just thought it was "compatible" with i7 but can be used with intel or AMD MOBO is that not right? Here is some other memory I found.
Patriot Viper II Sector 7 Edition DDR3 6 GB (3 x 2 GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz 8-8-8-24 Low Latency Kit PV736G1600LLK

I can get it for $115. The second question I had was about the phantom II x6 only being able to handle up to 1333Mhz. I did not know that. Can you OC them to 1600MHz? I was hoping to OC a little. is that not much of a difference from 1333Mhz to 1600 and up? I thought it would be. Thanks for the great comments and help.

The most immediate problem I saw was a full sized ATX mobo, but a micro-ATX case. Also, you listed a triple channel RAM kit (3x2GB), but AMD uses dual-channel RAM, so you want 2x2GB. For photo editing and gaming, 4GB is sufficient.
As to the case, I would choose Rosewill, Antec, Raidmax, NZXT, or Lian Li over Coolermaster.

The processor you chose can only utilize dual-channel ram, meaning you're limited to kits that come with an even number of sticks. (2, 4, 8GB kits). If you want to use the 6GB kits, you will need to switch to an i7 processor.

Technically, you can install the triple-channel kits...it'll just default to single-channel mode. That will result in a performance hit, but it's unlikely to be noticeable in day-to-day gaming, but it might show up under heavy photoshop usage.

Ahh ha I understand now thanks for the clarification. I'll get 2 x 2gb then. Any RAM in particular or is the brand I've mentioned above fine? As far as the case goes. the coolmaster 310 says it fits ATX and micro ATX so I thought it was fine or do you think with the stuff I want to put in it it'll be too crowded?

Does anyone have any additional info or suggestions on those two MOBO I mentioned?

OK so I think I've got my system. The only big looming question is which motherboard to get for this AMD x6 system I want to build. I like the features of the ASUS crosshair IV formula but the Gigabyte Socket AM3/AMD 890FX/SATA3&USB3.0/A&2GbE/ATX Motherboard GA-890FXA-UD5 looks attractive too and it's cheaper. The last one I'm looking at is this: ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB3 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard. So i'ts between these three... any suggestions or opinions? Thanks and you guys have been a big help!!

Sorry for my ignorance but can you plug in a 3gb/s HDD into a 6gb/s socket on a motherboard? re there any compatibility issues there? As far as I remember I don't there there are...

A random question. I think later I'll buy an SSD drive when they are a little more affordible however I want to buy windows 7 pro OEM and was wondering if when I get the new drive I can download the OS on that drive, use it as my main drive and have the old HDD drive be my back up drive? The question I have is because it's OEM will it let me switch it two a different hard drive? I thought maybe it could because the MOBO and system will all be the same. Just curious. Thanks. Oh and mosox I think I'm going to go with your suggested build. It works out great. Thanks!! Any combos for DVD drives etc?

That plan with Win 7 OEM will work fine. The Win 7 license is tied to the motherboard, not to any specific hard drive. In other words, you wouldn't have any problems unless you upgraded your motherboard at some point in the future and tried to reload Win 7 on that.

Does anyone have an opinion on these two hard drives?
1. SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
2. Western Digital Caviar Black WD6402AAEX 640GB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
I am trying to decide between them. Thanks

There's no advantage to SATA 6.0 Gb/s on a mechanical hard drive. Current hard drives can't even saturate SATA 3.0 Gb/s. Furthermore, the Spinpoint uses 2 500 GB platters, which results in denser data than the 2x 320 GB platters the WD uses. Denser platters gives you faster reads, though it's unlikely to be all that noticeable unless you read/write large files a lot.

Get the Spinpoint.

Any thoughts?... I was looking at doing this with an intel i5 or i7 but found this to be a better deal. Again this is a system for photo editing with photoshop and gaming namely Bad Company 2, medal of honor, total war Napoleon etc.

Wow mosox your a newegg combo genius! Thanks for these tips. The new mobo has a built in HD4250 card. If you add any second ATI card to that mobo will they work together in crossfire or will the new card (in this case the far superior HD 5870) be the default card? And is there any a mobo combo with win 7 professional?
