My first build I'm going to do in 8 years what do you guys think?

Hi my name is ryan,

I have been a computer geek on and off since 11 years old when i shoveled snow for a week to buy my first 0286 pc for 450$ out of the 475$ i made. I remember using dial up 2400kbs modem and playing on bbs servers before the internet.
I became fascinated with computers and took it apart,made it crash and had my friends father fix it as he was a programmer and it guy 2 houses down.
From there i learned basic knowledge of windows and dos commands as well as a passion for tony larussa baseball lol
Over the years i had made many builds all with amd processors and either graphics card at best price point.
I read the a plus book and read endless hours online about computers.
The build i was most proud of was making two identical computers for a linux noded 2 system setup i could tinker with, using my old identical athlon xp processors and asus motherboards before there was even dual core chips.
I took almost a year of programming and office in college.Life had other plans for me.
I have done some more builds in between but my plumbing and heating career took over my time and lead me away from my passion and hobby in pc building, networking and gaming.
This is my first build im gonna do and my most affordable that will allow me next year to put in i7 skylake and another r9 380x and upgrade psu.
Tell me what you guys think!

I know what everyone will say about psu i am going to upgrade it asap and put this in my sons dell xps pcfor him. But it should get me going for now.
In the future i think im gonna buy evga bronze 850 watt psu and do crossfire first.
Then next year i will upgrade cpu to i7 6700k and buy a liquid cooler.

Please give me any feedback i would love to hear what you guys think, i think it is the way to go as it will seem like a whole new computer next year but be functional for my home office and gaming for now.

Don't buy the cm storm combo, absolute pieces of cheap crud. Get something much better.

As for everything else, what is your budget for this year, I know you want an i7 next year, but what is your budget right NOW, and what do you plan to use the pc for over the next year? This way, we can get an idea of what to buy inside the budget.

Also, there isn't much merit to doing crossfire/sli atm. Better off getting a very good single gc for the best price to performance ratio.

Hi anonymous thanks for replying i havent been on these forums since athlon xp days.

i have been diagnosed with a reare spinal cord disease and cant do my job so im probably gonna transition to the office and run the company when done with doctors so my budget is really 500$-600$, but im trying to stretch it so that im not wasting money on junk and have a pathway to upgrade with, im even willing to maybe get another 380x or a better video card next year or 2 years along with i7 next year. i am only looking to do office work and also have a computer to play ashes of the singularity,civilization and maybe some cod again, instead of on my xbox. I also have the shield tv pro i do some games on ,netflix, hulu etc. i have logitech mouse keyboard combo wireless right now. I have been trying many different configurations and also maybe getting the refurbished acer i5 4460 tower on ebay for 349.99 and just put in video card in it. I just want to have shot at top tier performance next year though. I cant build an amd pc for under 550 with specs i want. I also cant afford better z motherboard from asrock to get nvidia cards for sli instead. I just want a 1080p pc with high to ultra settings capability , 4k netflix, hulu on my 4k tv and 380x comes with the game i want and am kinda building this around. should i just wait to get better wireless combo because i really cant stand wired and ive always used logitech. the mouse and keyboard is what im trying to skimp on because i can just give to my son with the psu when i change that.

Well building it around the 380x helps, do you plan on doing any sort of oc'ing? If you aren't, you can skip on a z series mb and just go for an h series. And if you want a path to upgrade later next year, getting that prebuilt acer is definitely going against that idea.

What you should do is get a good psu and mb now, and go cheap on the cpu and everything else, that way you have a solid foundation to build upon. But not cheap enough where you can't play your games, for example the 380x is a good card for that, along with the i3 6100. Kaby lake and subsequently cannon lake, will be using the same socket as skylake. And I shouldn't need to mention that skimping on a psu, and then handing it off to someone else isn't exactly a good idea. The one part you should splurge on every single time you build a pc is the psu.

The power supply you have is a way older model and really unsuitable for a modern computer . Its efficiency is low and the voltage variation will be high .
Ask for your money back

might need help with windows 7 install from what im reading about muse compatability with that and the asrock mobo

think i made the right choice it cost me 621$ like that for now and seeing as i need monitor i think the 530 graphics will b half decent on my 1280x1024 monitor for a month

my computer keeps having some issues now with either video or ram modules im scared to lose the info i backed company stuff to disk for now

I would swap out the sshd and put a regular hdd and ssd instead, it'll be much faster.
