Ok so I do design work in the engineering field. And I do some jobs on the side and need to have a computer that will be able to support around 4 or 5 modeling programs. It will also need to have capacity to hold several large project files.

I want to have something that is fast lots of memory and as lost cost as possible. I won't be doing any gaming so the graphics can be on the lower end (but don't want it to be crap!) I would also like to have the option to add more hard drive space, that is if I can

Can anyone help me form a list of things that would be good for this purpose?

Solution
look at the newer 4 core i3 for the cpu. hopefully intel drop the b/h chipset for coffee lake or there next cpu. go for one 16g ddr4 stick 3000 speed. whe nyou have the funds add a matching stick. go with m2 or nve ssd as boot drive for speed. on older hard drive look for black/red 7200 rpm wd drives. the red are server drives and should last you a while before needed to be replaced. lower end home drives do have higher mtf rate then the server drives do.
So I will be running (not at once per say) Revit, AutoCAD navisworks mainly and might upgrade to a few more over time.

Price range I would like to stay around $800 if I can

Ok, I figured it had something more to do than just the cores. But if can get away using a new i3 vs and older i7 or i5 then I am game
