Hello all! I am planning on building my first PC, and I would like your opinions on the build. First off, I will not be doing any over clocking or playing a lot of games. My budget is around $500. Here is the list of items I plan on getting.

Motherboard -
Gigabyte AM3+ AMD Micro ATX Motherboard GA-78LMT-USB3

CPU -
FX-8320 FX-Series 8-Core Black Edition Processor

Graphics Card -
EVGA GeForce GT 610 - 02G-P3-2619-KR

Storage -
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD

PSU -
EVGA 500 W1 80+, 500W Power Supply

Case -
Rosewill USB 3.0 Mid Tower REDBONE U3

Hmmm. This is actually a much tougher question than you realize. Everyone has such a focus on this use or that use that I flounder around when people say general purpose. But we will soldier on.

Okay, here you are pairing a 760G motherboard with an FX 8XXX processor, it is not a good combination.

Next, you are choosing the AM3+ platform which is well, probably not long for this earth. Latest platform that AMD has but AMD is really behind in releasing a new platform. Your total storage size for programs and stored files is relatively small. If you had said this computer was just for gaming it might be enough but I suspect you need more.

Here is a counter build. I chose the Skylake platform as it is the newest, has the best I/O features and gives you the most options for future upgrades.

Since you will likely not need a lot of threads a simple pentium is okay for now, for single threaded applications (most of what you do) it will be relatively quick. If you wanted you could replace the G4500 with an i3 6100. This will give you four threads instead of two with the pentium. It would be another $36, it might be worth the money for future proofing.

No need to include a video card, the G4500 has integrated HD 530 graphics, this is better than GT 610 you were looking at. If you wanted to reduce the system cost, you could go with the G4400 CPU, it would not be a big performance hit and saves you $29.

I swapped out your 250GB 850 EVO SSD (nice SSD) for a 1000GB Hybrid drive. It won't be quite as fast as the SSD but it will be much faster than a regular 7200RPM HDD and you get a lot more GB's.
