My first build: should I wait for the RX 480?

Solution
the rx 480 will most likely be very very similar in performace to the r9 390(x) or the gtx 970. however the gtx 970 only has 4(3.5+0.5)gb gddr5 while the 390(x) draws a lot of power. the rx 480 doesn't share these negative aspects (go for the 8gb version ofcourse) so in my opinion it is worth the wait. if you cannot wait however go with the r9 390 or the r9 390x as it will outperform the gtx 970. especially in the future when 4gb gddr5 isn't gonna cut it.

also i'd taker a slightly cheaper motherboard and get a ssd, unless there are some features on it which are crucial to you and can't be found on cheaper motherboards.

Solution
I have the 970 and I regret it. Already getting VRAM limited in some games, so either get the 390 (best fps per) or wait for the 480 reviews; it's 2 days away, just wait a bit longer. If you get the 480, spend the extra on the 8 gig model. I'm Canadian too so I know it's going to hurt more, but with that budget you want longevity :)

Thanks for the detailed info, I'm definitely gonna wait for the RX 480.
