I am planning on building my first ever PC for gaming, my budget is just around $1,200 or lower if possible. What I'm building isn't going to be crazy good but good enough that I can run newer games on high resolutions.

I have some parts in mind and was wondering if there's anything that I should know or improve on these parts: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/fKxwLk

Please give me your input and thoughts on these parts, keep in mind that I'm not done putting it all together yet. Just wanted to see what others have to say about it before I move on with other components! Also keep in mind that this is my first time doing this, don't really know my way around computers.

Also, let me know what's a good gaming monitor for the set up components that I have.

Would be great if you guys can recommend a monitor that's preferably priced around $100 - $150.

Thanks!

You did the same thing in that build, as you did in your 1st one. No need for a Z170 board, or the hyper 212, and that PSU is not a good one. GTX 970 > R9 380. You can get an 850 evo, for far less, than an 840 pro. Also are we doing Canadian or US here, as you have listed builds under both?

You don't need to spend that much on a Z97 board for a locked processor. H97 is more than sufficient.

There, now you can have an i5 and GTX 970 for the same price.

Don't need the cooler, and an H170 board is all that is necessary. PSU, any tier 1 or tier 2, at least 550w.

To the OP:
Ok, sorry, got in a hurry there. I modified your build, and kept pricing similar, while managing a better GPU, and PSU. G1 Evga's are not very good. B2/G2/GS are all excellent units, though.

Slightly more than timeconsumer's build, but this gets you an i5 on the latest platform (Skylake), the required DDR4 memory, a decent sized, good quality SSD, a GTX 970 & a PSU capable of upgrading in the future.

timeconsumer posted a great PSU, but the one I've linked is also good, gives you a huge allowance for upgrades, and really, for the price is too good to pass up.

*EDIT* - apparently I took a while to type my post out, timeconsumer was the only reply when I started.

Not bad, but over budget.

Damn. I had $1,300 in my head.....Could drop the SSD initially I guess, but I think the extra $100 would be totally worth it.

True 'gaming' monitors run into the high hundreds of dollars, but you can find an adequate one, in your price range that supports high quality resolution.

For example:
