This is my first build, after doing some research and reading some of the previous posts on the forum this is what I thought would be the best setup for me. Is there anything here that really does not belong or is not necessary, also is everything compatible with each other. I apologize for any mistakes I have made while selecting this stuff, as I said I am new and have very little experience with building a computer.

Approximate Purchase Date: Sometime in the next 3-4 months, hopefully before Christmas

Budget Range: $1,500-$3,000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, movies, MS Office, surfing.

Parts Not Required: Windows 7 64-bit OS, Speakers, Mouse.

Preferred Website for Parts: www.newegg.com

Country of Origin: U.S.A.

Parts Preferences: I want to stick with Intel and Nvidia for processor and graphics, but for everything else I really don’t care, as long as it’s quality.

Overclocking: Maybe

Upgrading: I would like to have the option to upgrade the system in future years, but also want a system that is going to be usable for at least 5-6 years.

SLI or Crossfire: Yes, later after 580 cards are cheaper

Monitor Resolution: 1920 x 1080

Parts I have already picked out:

This is not on the QVL but it does meet all of the connection requirements, and would there be a problem with adding an extra 2-4 GBs of RAM on later (or is 8GBs enough).

Graphics Card:EVGA 015-P3-1580-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Would it be worth the money to by an SSD or is the drive I have now sufficient, if so what should I look for.

PSU: ENERMAX MODU87+ EMG700AWT 700W (Peak 770W) ATX 12V v2.3 / EPS 12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Case Fan: I have a couple that I think would work but it is really worth my money to buy an extra fan for the case or does it already have enough.

Solution
The parts you have listed seems to be a mixed set of things from low to high quality.

CPU:
i5 2500k ~$220 - good choice

CPU cooler:
Your choice is lowsy. Suggestions: Cooler Master Hyper 212 + or EVO $28-35, Scythe Mugen 3 $45

Mobo:
P67 or Z68 based motherboard is the way to go, not sure if that asus board is the best available.
Pretty much choose one which comes with the Gen3 PCIe support once Ivy bridge hits.
Asrock Z68 Extreme 3/4 Gen3 are good choices
While pricy the P8Z68 Gen3 offering from Asus is good as well.

Memory:
Corsair vengeances work fine, also GSkill has bunch of different sets that work for you as long as they are.
2x4GB 1.5V or less CAS9 1600Mhz.

GPU: Well GTX580 is powerful for sure, if you want that much...

2x4GB 1.5V or less CAS9 1600Mhz.

GPU: Well GTX580 is powerful for sure, if you want that much juice, go for it.

Case:
Well the HAF X is a good case and it's huge. If you like that case it's hard to go wrong with it.
Other choices exist in that segment as well. HAF 932 is pretty good, same with Corsair 500R.

PSU:
Since you intend to go SLI with GTX580, i would recommend ~1000W PSU for it.
Can't go wrong with Seasonic Platinum 1000W $259.99
Amazing PSU with 80+ platinum efficiency and provides stable power for your system.
The one you selected is not bad, just not up to running 2xGTX580.

DVD:
Get a DVD burner. The 24x DVD burners from Sony, Asus, Lite-On etc are about $19-$24.

HDD:
That HDD is really expensive, while it's probably good you most likely could do with less space and then add if you run out.
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB for storage drive is fine.

SSD:
Yes it's worth it to get an SSD. Sata III based drives in the 120GB range let you install OS, SW and most likely a few games on it too.
Corsair Force 3 has been on nice sales lately, so nice pricewise.
OCZ Vertex 3 is great, I have one of those and it's quite nice.
Then going up in price a bit you get other Sandforce based SSD's that use faster memory chips than the Vertex 3.

Keyboard:
This is up to what you want, so your choice is fine.

Monitor:
The asus monitor is fine, but there are others choices in that price range as well.

Any extra fans, i would say get them if you have issues with temps, most likely you wont.

As for the other things like card readers, most of them will work fine.

Those should do. 120GB SSD would probably be better, but it would be an extra $60-80.
Since there is a sale on the 120GB OCZ vertex 3.

For the ~60GB size the crucial M4 is a good choice too, not sure on what the pricing on those is atm.
