Hi chaps,
I've been out of the gaming world for a few years now. I've recently found myself in a position where I have enough spare time to kick back and enjoy all the games that have come out since fallout 3!..
I've always just had consoles, but recently I've been looking into building a computer instead. Mainly for the reason that as long as I keep parts of the hardware updated every few years it will stay up to date with the current games of that time. (It also looks like a lot of fun!).

So here is my question..
Baring in mind that I am totally new to this, although I do like to think I am fairly practical, I'm not going to understand everything straight off the bat!
So after a lot of searching on amazon I have put together a list of components I believe would create a killer set up for £500.
Would you mind advising me on whether:
a) I could have picked a better component?
b) The components I chose will be compatible?
c) Have I left anything out..?

I thank you in advance!!
Seb

Sorry that it is slightly above your budget, but its has a lot better performance.

The i3 6100 is extremely more better than the FX 6300 for gaming, since its single core performance is so high. You don't need an after market cooler for this CPU for gaming. A 2TB HDD seemed only little more expensive than a 1TB as it has a lot better price/capacity, and these days, even 1TB is getting little.
The Case by a much better brand, is reliable, nice cooling, and looks nice too. The power supply is a 600w in order to feed the R9 380 graphics card, which is even better than a GTX 960. Hope you enjoy. If you have any questions, let me know!

Thank you so much for your reply!

The extra £14 is no problem at all. So if I went ahead and bought this list of parts instead, in your opinion it would create a perfectly capable gaming machine..? How would it stand up to the current playstation and xbox?
And finally, would you say it would last? will I be able to swap over the gpu, or stick a bit more ram in there later down the line to keep it up to scratch..?
Thank you thank you.

Hi, I've just realised the motherboard is a micro-atx.
I don't really know what this means apart from the size, and that normally you would use a full size atx board in a gaming pc. Is that right?
Thanks!

At that price range only Micro ATX are available, and the ones that aren't only support DDR3 memory. There is nothing wrong with Micro ATX, they just have lesser ram slots etc. If you want a very nice motherboard;

It is a much better motherboard, and especially supports higher speed memory which your processor takes a huge advantage of, and you can overclock your processor on this board. It is definitely worth the price, but will surpass your budget, if you can afford it, its a must buy.

You will also need better ram to take advantage of the motherboad. Its only a few dollars more and is completely worth it (you need the motherboard above to support it as i stated)

great, they have already been ordered and things started arriving today.
So you would seriously recommend returning the ram and mother b.?
Thanks again, you've been so helpful
