Over the years i have build a handful of low end, budget PC's for family and friends. So i'm not really a "Tech"
When i first started years ago it was actually cheaper to build them than to buy PC's from name brand companies. However it became less financially viable over the years but it was still something i enjoyed.
These days, being on "lockdown" can be dangerous if you have a internet connection and a credit card.
After dwelling on it, I decided that i was going to build my first gaming machine BUT,, it had to be under $1k and it had to be able to Run Red Dead Redemption II, not because i'm avid gamer, which i'm not, but because that game just looked SOOO beautiful.
After much mental debating i took the plunge and assembled the following machine:
1 Gigabyte Micro ATX B450M DS3H motherboard.
1 Ryzen 3 3200G
2 Sticks of G.Skill DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Ram, 16gb total
1 Team Group 512gb m.2 NVMe SSD
1 Sapphire RX 5700 XT PULSE
1 Crappy budget case
1 AMD Wraith MAX CPU cooler
1 EVGA 600w 80 bronze PSU ( this was an ordering mistake i meant to get the 650w but so far it's functioning OK and cool )
1 OLD asus Blu-ray burner
1 Seriously OLD card reader.
It was difficult to keep the build under 1k dollars and still meet the requirements i had. But the whole build came in at about 850 dollars.
In the end, it can play RDR2 at 1080p high settings at 54fps on a 55inch TV... and thats just fine!
Iam super pleased with the average of 10w power draw of the RX 5700 XT under normal activity loads. The card stays very cool in part due to it being positioned directly over intake vents on the bottom of the case.
Arthur calming his horse.
I don't know why i chose this game capture, but i like it for some reason.
So far, im Super Pleased with my first "gaming" build.
( i realize this is a low budget build but it is technically a gaming machine, just barely LOL)
Things i have learned from this build:
I was reminded once again, how good we had it with Windows 7 pro,, And how sometimes windows 10's nose doesn't know what its tail is doing.
I had to disable so much OS spyware and at the same time, constantly tweak Defender to allow me to complete certain Tasks, Setups and Downloads. Power management was another area of windows 10 that was different than 7. Also, i found my USB ports would stop functioning or freeze due to inactive power throttling by the OS.
Anyway, it's been Fun.
Now to get back to actually making money to pay it off or use the StimCheck 😉
