My First Gaming Rig

Hello, I began looking into computers a few months ago when I realized I wanted to play games on my decrepit Compaq, and after about a month of searching, I am confident I've found a build that will be perfect for my budget, but, there are some things that I'm really unsure of. For one, I don't know if I picked a good motherboard because that is the only thing that doing research on leaves me running in circles.

I plan on using this build for at least 4 years so I don't want to have to do any massive upgrading. On that note, I was wondering if I should get the gtx 580 instead of the gtx 570 and the i7 2600k instead of the i5 2500k. I only game in 1600x900 so I wasn't sure if that would be overkill.

Any tips on whether this is a good build for gaming in games like GTA 4, Team Fortress 2, Battlefield 3, Portal 2, Tribes Ascend, etc. on high settings at 60fps with no dips would be greatly appreciated.

the 580 would be overkill for that resolution, it's best to stick with the 570 or maybe 560ti but not so sure on the 560ti but the 570 will definitely be a beast at that res.

The i7-2600k does not have any significant boost over the i5-2500k, at best there would only be 2% increase in gaming.

I think you would only need a mainstream P67 or Z68 motherboard to enjoy all your games, and have room for upgrading in the future. I'm using an Asrock Z68 Extreme 3 Gen 3 motherboard for $119 after rebate. Something comparable would be a Gigabyte Z68 UD3.

core i5 2500k is plenty of juice, and if you don't plan on going crazy with overclocking, you can save some money and get the i5 2500.

I also chose the MSI geforce GTX460 1gb after seeing a benchmark comparison of several similar cards. The GTX460 performed better than several other cards that it shouldn't have, including GTX550Ti. I picked it up for $99 after rebate...

Does that mobo support sli in case I decide to do that down the line?

Also, what kind of performance do you think I can squeeze out of this system for Battlefield 3 since that is one of my main concerns?
