As the title suggests I need help picking the ram for a gaming PC the motherboard I'm using is the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 the processor I'm using is the intel core i5 660 I don't know how to pick what's best for me I'm on a bit of a budget but every little bit helps.

Solution

that cpu is not compatible with that motherboard, the i5 660 is a 1156 cpu

the z97 is a 1150 based motherboard
on page 1-4 it states https://www.manualslib.com/manual/831121/Msi-Z97-Gaming-5.html?page=18#manual
4x DDR3 memory slots supporting up to 32GB
Supports DDR3 3200(OC)/ 3100(OC)/ 3000(OC)/ 2800(OC)/ 2666(OC)/ 2600(OC)/ 2400(OC)/ 2200(OC)/ 2133(OC)/ 2000(OC)/ 1866(OC)/
1600/ 1333/ 1066 MHz
Dual channel memory architecture.
Supports non-ECC, un-buffered memory

the question is how much memory do you have and want total, are you using windows x32 bits or x64 and what's your budget

typo i meant 6600

i5 6600 is not compatible either

sorry i wrote this at 2 in the morning after hours of reserching let me elaborate first im looking for eight gigabytes of ram, my operating system is windows 10 x64 bit, and finally my budget is around $40-50 i may go over or under if its close enough thank you for your time

ok then let me see if i can find an alternitive

z97 = i5 4690(k)

for a i5 6600(k) you need a z170 based motherboard, also need ddr4 ram

so the 4690 is compatible with thi z97? not the 6600
