I've been playing around with overclocking the Q8200 I bought a few weeks ago. Since buying the chip, I've heard a lot about how terrible it is and everything else but oh well. It was a decent deal and some of the complaints (no virtualization) aren't likely to really affect me any time soon. Anyway, I just wanted to share my initial results and see how they stacked up.
I've got the chip running at 3.15 GHz (450 x 7) at 1.2125V, which is ever so slightly less than the default. Temperatures are 58, 52, 56, 56 for the cores at full load and the case temp is in the 32-34 range. I've got a bit more room so I might try 3.5 GHz at some point but I've already got 35% more out of the chip at a low Vcore. I'm also afraid my memory won't enjoy that 500 MHz FSB all that much since I had to bump it to 2.0 for 450 Mhz.
But for now, I think I'm happy. I don't really fell the need to push the processor too far. Yet.
I can't let this become an addiction until I can afford the habit.
