Hello!

My friend is looking to purchase a pre-built PC and has narrowed his selection down to two.

An iBuyPower with a GTX 1060, 16GB of 2400MHz RAM, and a 6 Core i7 8700 for a total of $1,079.99 w/ student deal, or one with a GTX 1050 Ti, 8GB of 2400GHz RAM, and a 4 Core i7 7700 at $1,149.99.

Now, I would normally say the first one in a heartbeat, especially because he doesn't care about the SSD, but after going through some of the listed specs, something caught my eye. The listed i7 8700 has a base speed of 3.2 GHz, whereas the i7 7700 has one of 3.6GHz.

Was this a typo / error? That doesn't seem like it should be the case at all. Which one is actually better?

Thank you!

Best Buy is listing the base speeds, which is correct. With sufficient cooling, the processors will work mostly at their boost speeds where the 8700 has the advantage as well as having 2 additional cores and 4 additional threads for multitasking performance.

Right, that's what I was thinking. I just think it's weird that a chain as big as Best Buy would make that mistake.
