NEC 17" Superbright Diamondtron monitor that has 2 barely visible lines, each about 4 inches from the top and bottom of the monitor viewing area. Does anyone have a clue why the lines are on there? They do not appear to be a defect, merely an unusual sight. Thanks

If it's a Trinitron screen, then it's normal. It's required to hold the insides of the screen in place.

In displays that use Trinitron or Diamondtron technology, pixels are arranged in vertical stripes. These designs rely on the precision of the electron gun for horizontal separation, so the mask (called an aperture grille in these displays) only has to keep the vertical stripes separate.

The "lines" are shadows cast by thin damper wires that keep all the vertical aperture grille "strips" from moving around.
