my friends computer is being difficult

so, my friend has a computer and it took a while to restart then install updates it got stuck at 30% eventually restarted and now is saying getting windows ready it is the alienware alpha gaming pc and is a total bitch and its now working on updates. Any advice other than powering it off which i think will make things worse?

Powering off in the middle of updates is not a good idea and will likely cause greater problems that could require a clean install or at least a restore.

Was he having any issues prior to the update?

You should never power off a computer performing updates unless you either have a backup image or are ready/willing to reinstall windows.

Just let it run no matter how long it takes.

What version of windows is it?
