My games look slow while playing at 50 FPS,they are smooth only while playing at 60,or 60+ FPS!Please help me!

Hi all,

I have a Lenovo Y-700-15ISK laptop,with these specs:16 GB DDR4 RAM,i7-6700 HQ CPU and Nvidia GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 GPU.

I have noticed that while I play games at 45-50 FPS they are very very slow,they are smooth only while running at 60 or 60+ FPS;I have compared my gameplay to the gameplay showed on YouTube videos!

This is for any of my games!

Theirs 50 FPS looks almost like my 60 FPS!

Please help me!

There is compression of the video, which is rarely at 60 fps, but more typically 24-30 range.
They might be using active sync (g-sync, free-sync) to smooth things out.

Try tuning your PC slightly and you may well be able to stay above 60fps. Start by dropping v-sync and use afterburner instead.

Edit: By the way,if I disable the v-sync in the games,I get tearing!

And delete all the temp files (2-3 won't delete, this is normal)

Again in a run dialog (windows key + R) type %windir%\temp%
And delete those files too.

Make sure next to nothing is running on startup of your pc
download SysInternals tools from Microsoft and check with AutoRuns

Close all your programs when you are about to start a game. Especially your web browers such as Chrome.

Did you limit the FPS to 60 in afterburner? I'd bet if you test the FPS within GTA you got tearing when you went over 60fps.

Did you limit the FPS to 60 in afterburner? I'd bet if you test the FPS within GTA you got tearing when you went over 60fps.

Yes,I limited the FPS to 60 FPS in Afterburner + I've just downloaded and run the d3dOverrider,but I still get tearing!

Yes,it is! I don't have the option to set the v-sync to adaptive in Nvidia Settings,I have set it to adaptive in Nvidia Inspector !

I'd say if adaptive is missing from nvidia settings then it isn't using it.

This is an issue because from what I read it is supported on the 960m.

I'd try a driver reinstall to see if it shows up.

Try setting desktop to 50htz & see if the gameplay still looks slow (this will lock vsync to 50fps rather than 60)

I checked if the GTX 960M supports adaptive v-sync on Nvidia forum,and I found that it doesn't support it!
Next,I found out that with setting the v-sync to adaptive in Nvidia Inspector,in Nvidia Control Panel is shown that,it is adaptive but it is with half refresh rate!

By the way I cannot change the refresh rate of my laptop monitor!

What should I do?

The 960m absolutely does support adaptive vsync.

The issue is likely your laptop is an optimus enabled one meaning its force disabled

If you can enter BIOSand change your GPU settings from MSHybrid mode to Discrete (if your BIOS has this option) , then uninstall & reinstall the nvidia drivers you should find the adaptive option selectable in nvidia settings.

Because the 960m uses the Intel igp as a frame buffer there is no way to just disable the intel graphics & use the nvidia discrete graphics.

Yeah, that's a massive issue for a gaming laptop IMO , I wouldn't be happy either.

I think the best youre going to do is diable vsync entirely , force triple buffering to on for all applications system wide.

Then use afterburner/rivatuner to sat a 57 or 58 fps cap.

That should eliminate most of the screen tearing.
