My GPU doesnt support freesync but I want freesync monitor?

I built my system back in January of this year and when I did I put an FX-6300 along with an R9 280 in it so I could game and stuff as it was my first computer I built. Fast forward to now and I am hoping to buy a new monitor after I collect some cash from Christmas this year. I am looking for a 21x9 monitor to game and do some school work on, I found one i liked and it was the LG 34UM67 with freesync. I liked it because it is an ultra-wide and has the freesync in it for the casual gaming that I do. Just with my luck, freesync isnt even compatible with the R9 280!!
I was wondering whether i should sell my 280 and buy a 285 with that money and then buy the LG monitor christmas time? Will there be a decrease in performance because the 285 only has 2gb of vram? Or is freesync even worth it? Please help me. Thanks

Don't bother saving to get a R9 285, save to get a R9 390/390X or higher.

The 34" are much nicer than 29" but if you're strapped on the cash side, you could do 29" 21:9 with freesync for almost $300 less on this monitor, must be on sale at that price don't know for how long. And then sell your card and get a 390.

They have the 34" on sale too, same monitor you're lookin at for $549 so maybe keep that b&h place in mind later if you aren't doing it now.

Instead of 285.....try looking for 290 or 290X...if they still available for cheap. If not 390 would be good although it is much more expensive.

You guys are all recommending me the 290/290x but the fx-6300 bottlenecks that card and I'm not looking to overclock. I am starting to think I should go with a 29in ultra wide instead of 34 because 2560x1080 I heard looks like crap on 34in screen.

Bottleneck or not 290 still better choice with such high resolution.

It probably wont look as good as the 29, 34" is a bit larger and needs higher resolution. It wont look horrible but 29 would still look better. Sorry, I didn't see the fx 6300 part and don't know how a 280 would compare to a 290x if it was bottlenecked. It still could be better at higher resolution because you don't use as much cpu as you go up in resolution, like renz said.
