as the title says im trying to play Rust on potatoe mode obviously you would think that a AMD radeon 270X thats been over clocked should beable to handel that, well im getting the problem of only 1711MB of Vram being used im running rust on DX10/11 not sure which (i think its 11) and i haven't got a clue how to allocate/force the game to use more Vram, also in MSI after burner it is saying that the GPU usage is maxed at 100% my specs are:
Intel core 2 Quad Q8300 @2.5GHz
12GB DDR3 RAM
AMD radeon 270X 4GB GDDR5
running windows 10 X64
if you need more info please tell me what you need and ill do my best to get it to you ASAP

ok so why is it that im only getting 13 FPS and i have spare Vram but it wont use it when its at 100% and over clocked

It doesn't need to. VRAM isn't the determinant in terms of performance. If your video card needed VRAM to perform, it would use it. Making a card use more VRAM won't increase its performance, the same way that regular RAM works. If you have more RAM than needed, it won't get used. However, if you don't have enough it becomes a performance issue.

In the same tune, even if you have extra RAM available, making your computer use more RAM won't increase performance. The game takes what it needs, not more and not less.

Perhaps you should start looking at what else could be lowering your FPS (such as CPU, for example).

my CPU is fine its only running at 40C when under load due to being cooled with a 212EVO i dont see what else could be causing the drops other than the GPU because even when rust or any other game is running my CPU isnt getting used 100%

I made some suggestions in my previous post.

Check your CPU utilization in games, are any cores getting maxed out? Is it showing the correct clock speed?

Check the GPU Utilization, how high is it getting in games? What clock speed is the gpu running under load?

i just checked with running rust my CPU doesnt get above 70% and my GPU is at 100% and the clock speed is correct for the CPU @2.50GHz and the clock speed on the GPU is 1450MHz

i have it running on potatoe mode right now (thats the settings they use) and ive even taken off AA and some of the other settings ive disabled all together but it still only give 13FPS

Rust is a game that is optimized fairly poorly, and is pretty intensive on low-end or some mid-range computers. Your CPU is probably holding you back quite a bit, even if it isn't at 100% usage. Your GPU would be able to run Rust somewhat decently with a mid-range CPU, like a Ryzen 5 1400 or a 3rd gen i5, but your CPU is significantly outdated.

If you want major changes in FPS, I suggest you upgrade your CPU. I'm not sure if you can get better FPS with your specs.

ok was just wondering if there was anything i could do with this setup im actually selling this one and getting anew $1500 build pretty soon i hope but i just ran a few benchmarks on furmark at my screens resolution which is 1366X768 and got a worse result than at 1080P any idea why that is??
