My Toshiba External hard disc is not working. My laptop switched off suddenly while copying files. After restarted my laptop, when I tried to check my hard disk, it didnt show up in explorer, when i open disk management it says disk not initialized, and when i tried to initialize it, it says "the drive cannot find the sector requested "
any advice ?

Sorry for the late reply on my part as well. I was away for several days.

It really seems like the drive might be damaged and unless it turns out to be a faulty port or cable, your best bet for data recovery would probably be a professional solution, such as a data recovery company. So go ahead and try it out with a different USB cable and a different computer (if possible) to see if the problem still persists.
Hey there, Ricky.

Unfortunately it sounds like the partition might have been damaged. Would you post a screenshot of Disk Management with the drive connected to the computer (you can use imgur.com to upload the image)? Here's how to access it: How to access Disk Management in Windows to manage hard drives.

If you need the data from that drive, I'd advise against initializing it just yet. First you should attempt to recover the files. So you could start by trying to access the HDD via Ubuntu Live USB/DVD and see if the partition is accessible so that you can get to your data. If that doesn't help, you could try with data recovery software: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html & http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filerecovery/tp/free-file-recovery-programs.htm.

Please keep me updated on your progress.
