My hard drive does a tick sound

So I think it is a sound that makes the HD, the sound it makes is like a "tick" and it does the sound only one tick (below there is a link to the sound). It is not doing various ticks in a row, it is just one tick. The sound shows up not so very often, every 3-4 hours when I'm no "using" the computer (so much) but when I play games every 1 - 2 hours. The sound shows even when the computer is suspended, so I'm not very sure if it really is the hard drive doing it. Should I be worried? It could other component doing it instead of the HD?
I'm currently doing back up...
Note: the sound is very low and almost audible, so I augmented it with a sound software.

That is the original sound, I only augmented it by audacity. If it's really on it's way out, there is nothing I can do? I google HD sounds and no one sound like mine, and I didn't notice those "recognize hd problems (blue screen, broken file, etc)", it really could be doing those sound even if the pc is suspended?

ok, thanks for the help! I'm sorry asking you this again, but the Hard drive could be doing that sound while the computer is suspended? I was just wondering because (correct me if i'm wrong) I know hd are supposed to be off while the pc is suspended. And it's really a sound that only the hard drive could be doing? Sorry if I'm being fussy, it's just I have the right amount of money to buy a case I need or a new hd...

I can't identify what is making the sound - you need to. Unplug unnecessary fans, take the side off the case and stick your head in there to see what is causing the issue.

It shouldn't be on while the PC is asleep however nor should any components be.

Only thing I can think of is a fan catching on something occasionally.

Well so I opened the case, then I moved some wires and take sure that no one was colliding with CPU fan and the GPU fan. I didn't unplug the only case fan because it's on the back of the case and the sound is coming from the front. I ran two scan disk with the Windows utility (for my 2 partitions) and they were perfect with no "defective" files. Sound seems gone until now (like more than 5 hours later). I re-opened the case and make sure (again) that no wire was close to any fan. I'd like to stay with my head near the case but it's a truly problem because the sounds shows randomly. But I'm pretty sure it must be the HD, I don't think a dvd writer or a bluray writer could be doing that sound. As last option, there is any way to force the disk to make sounds (the sound we heard)?

NOTE: I noticed that now the sound is less frequently, I'm don't know what could be the reason of that...

ok! So now my case remained without the front part until now and the sound seems gone again (I'll wait to see if that was causing it). I don't know how is this revelant, but this is truly maddening. If I hear the sound again I'll unplug the writers...

EDIT: It could be a temperature issue?
EDIT 2: The sound is again, the case front part is relevant.

Not really4E, I didn't hear the sound yet, and both writers are unplugged, but like I said before, the sound shows randomly. So there is a change that the writers are causing it.

No I don't hear it and the both writers are unplugged. It seems to be one of the writers, but how could be making that sound if there isn't even any disc in any of them? (when is plugged)

EDIT: The sound is back, it's probably the hard drive. Thank you for your help.

Sorry to bother you again, but I discovered that maybe my case is somehow doing the sound, because while the front part of the case is removed the sound dissapear. But then when I put again the front part the sound reappears...

The front part of the case have no cable nor a fan. This is what the case looks like http://www.techpowerup.com/gallery/3289/5.jpg (not my pc just I took it from the internet). Still all this time without the front part and no sound. It could be a temperature issue for the hard drive? Or somehow the case is making the sound audible?

It is hard to diagnose from here. It is up to you to open the case and find the issue.

If it is certainly a component then you need to replace it.

Are you sure the sound is coming from inside the case? Not elsewhere in the room/outside?

I'm completely sure that the sounds comes from inside the case, I have no other device nearby that could be doing it; We discarded the two writers, I checked that no cable was stucking on a fan and I no other component that is near the front of the case but the hard drive, I have no doubt that maybe the hd is causing it, but I don't get why the sound dissapears when I remove the front part of the case. I will leave the phone inside of the case near the hd recording while the front part is placed.

Is the HDD also your boot HDD? Do you have more than one storage device? If so, unplug the one you suspect and then see if it happens.

Please run the PC for a day or so with and without the case - there is no correlation between the front part of the case and the HDD when there is no contact with them whatsoever.

I don't get what you mean with "Is the HDD also your boot HDD?", I only have one HD. Also I don't get how it could be "with and without the case"?

Boot HDD means the device that the OS is on. If you only have one drive then it is your boot HDD.

You've been saying that the click occurs with the case on but not with the case off. This implies that the issue is somehow with the case.

If you are certain it is the HDD, replace it.

If you think it is the case, then do what I suggested in the previous answer.
