by the way I've tried showing hidden folders and everything in folder options.

The drive is partitioned and formatted FAT32...a very unstable file system, as far as I'm concerned. My guess is that there are bad sectors and/or weak heads that are resulting in parts of the FAT chain being broken or corrupted. Your best option is to seek the assistance of a professional data recovery lab (ie, www.recoveryforce.com). The cost for professional services, assuming that the heads don't need to be changed should be well under $500.

If data recovery services are not an option, then you could try starting with getting a full sector-by-sector clone of your drive. As bad sectors are likely, you will likely need to use a program that can handle bad sectors, such as the Linux program ddrescue. This process is not as easy...

As bad sectors are likely, you will likely need to use a program that can handle bad sectors, such as the Linux program ddrescue. This process is not as easy as it sounds and a simple mistake could result in complete data loss...so, don't try this unless you are 100% sure that you know what you are doing and professional services are out of the question.

After you get the clone, if the file system on the clone is not fully accessible right away, you can then run a data recovery program such as R-Studio (http://www.r-tt.com/downloads/SESPLZFCRO000/rsd_en_3.exe) to recover your files.

Good luck!
