My hard drive fell unopened with all the packaging in it, is it damaged or no because WD has a pretty durable box.

Hey there, Joseph!

I'd advise you to track the HDD's performance once you install it. Make sure that there are no unusual noises coming from the HDD.
As for the drive's health, you should use the Data LifeGuard Diagnostics for Windows as it was already mentioned. Running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests will help you determine that and also show you the S.M.A.R.T. data results.

Hope there's nothing to worry about! :)

maybe not at all no telling how somebody like shipping it with UPS and there throwing the box around and taking it around back for ''further processing''

thing is weather you dropped it or not it still comes down to install it and see ?? like anything today it will work as expected or it don't

I'm guessing same thing as everyone else. It should be fine as the heads are most likely parked and as such can sustain a 20G impact without packaging. With packaging I'm guessing it can easily survivie a pretty hefty drop height.

Of course, best way to find it out is naturally open the box and hook it up. If you start getting errors during use fairly soon, it would still be under warranty and you can just return it. If it doesn't start showing errors, then of course it's fine.

but yet its not selected as best answer ?? been changed by a stranger not the OP??

I guess for hooking the desk top drive to a lap top to test I assume you would need a docking station ??

honestly I bet that drive been bounced around between the factory docks and your door step far worse than you dropping it still in its protected retail box

I'd just shrug my shoulders on that hook it up and run it weather you dropped it or not your chances of a defective drive is low and no better that one you did not drop [opinion]
