I've just buily myself a new pc (without any previous knowledge of it) and apparently my disc drive isn't being detected. I have a small SATA entering it from the mobo and a larger SATA from the power supply, what is wrong? Thank you.

Turn off the computer, then check and see what SATA port on the motherboard you are connected to and insure that the SATA power cable is firmly attached.

Are you attempting to install Windows, and have no available drives to install on? Which Windows version and what motherboard?

It is connected to the third SATA port? Will this matter? Also I am attempting to install Windows 8 64 bit on a gigabyte 970A-DS3P motherboard. It doesn't mention anything about drives although when it tells me to restart, I do and it tells me to go through it all again. If I go into restart the windows 8 instal it tells me I'm missing a partitional drive.
